In these consolidated cases each of the defendants entered guilty pleas in the trial court. Both occurred in Williamson County
with different Judges in each case. At the individual sentencing hearings the trial Judge reduced the sentence which had previously
been agreed upon at the guilty plea proceedings. The State appealed the trial court judgment to the Court of Criminal Appeals on the issue of whether the trial court erred
in sua sponte reducing the sentences of defendants, where said sentences were imposed by the agreement of the parties and
with prior judicial approval. The Court of Appeals affirmed the trial court judgment, with one Judge Dissenting. The State
filed an application for appeal to this Court, which was granted. The issue is now before us for Disposition.
